About me:

Mark Mollenkopf It's hard to say when I realized I had a passion for cycling, but I think the moment came while watching Greg Lemond win his 2nd Tour De France in 1989. I knew then that I wanted to experience everything that cycling had to offer. The 1st thing I did was go the completely opposite direction of Lemond and road bikes, and jumped into this new fad called "mountain biking" after only a year of riding I was hooked. Becoming more enthused I started racing and after racing my way through the 90's on a mountain bike in places like North Carolina, Colorado, Arizona and Nevada I finally ended up in Southern California owning bike after bike. Following all the latest trends I have owned and ridden some of the most expensive bikes on the market and yet nothing has ever compared to that clean compliant feeling I get from steel. In the 20 years I have been an avid cyclist I have come full circle and returned to the one material that has stood the test of time in the world of cycling... Steel.

Don't get me wrong I am a technoweenie by nature and I still love to ride carbon, aluminum or Full suspension bikes. But no longer being a racer or feeling the need to have the newest unubtainium widget I have come to prefer the buttery quiet feel of the new "Super" steel. I can still have my super light weight, quick handling climbing machine along with the classic elegant look of a lugged road bike all in one unique frame.

But enough about my opinions... so how about some technical background. I have worked in just about every position available in the bike industry, from a humble bike mechanic and race support at a few Colorado bike shops to high end sales and service for topnotch retailers. I have worked on the inside of the industry for the past seven years ending up as a product manager and designer traveling to Asia regularly and learning many of the ins and outs of bicycle design and manufacturing. Ending up recently implementing my skills and knowledge and learning the art of making a bicycle frame by hand. I draw my skills from years of constant research and hands on development of bicycle parts. I have always approached everything I do with an open mind and willingness to learn. This has helped me tremendously in my quest to build hand crafted frames, I have taken the time to learn the time tested methods of custom frame building. So you can be assured that I won't settle for just welding together a set of tubes, I will approach every frame I build with absolute conviction in crafting a bike that will stand the test of time.
